Should the United States of America be an imperial nation?
That is the question I want you to consider. There is evidence supporting the idea that we should not be and there is plenty of evidence supporting why we should be to some extent. Now you get to be the decision maker. Write your answer to this question in a constructed response. I think the U.S. should be a inperial natioin, with some boundrys. I think that we should be able to use our military power to threatin other countrys if they area threatening to cause us or other weak country harm. An example of when we did this is currently in Iraq. When we took down there ruler to help them start a government. another example is when we helped helped many island countrys to escape from spainish rule.Even though at times we have been very imperial, such as helping the spainish island be free, even though we got them out of spainish rule we kept most of the countrys.
That is why i think the U.S. should be an imperial force with some boundrys and limits

If we all were strong countrys then there would be no weak ones,
so if we were not a strong on we would have to be a weak one,that would mean we coudld not live the same way we do now. i also thiink that since we are an imperial nation that we can stop wars so they dont start in the first place.

America cannot be an imperial nation. If we became an imperial nation we would be doing the same thing the brittish did to us. If america became an imperial nation it would be adding one more problem to our list. For example we are in war right now with iraq. If a country does the same thing we did with brittan and fight back we would be in big trouble. We are also the fatest country in the world. We dont need to be the policeman we need to be woried about are own problems. If america became an imperial nation we would suffer.

I think the U.S. shouldn't be an imperial nation. One, because I think other countries should be able to make their own decisions. Two, because when we interfered with the war in Iraq it didn't really do anything except that we lost a lot of soldiers. Three, because we use a lot of our own resources for other countries when we could spend it on our own countries. That is why I think the U.S. shouldn't be an imperial nation.
I believe America should be an imperialistic country but have some restrictions. I beleive that if you have a world power country that it should help other smaller weaker countries out . We have done that many times in our countrie's history from WW2 in the 1940's to Irak today. Some people may argue that we are losing to many men in Irak and yes that may be, but if you do not try your hardest to stop the fighting on their soil than the fighting will most likely become on our own soil. I do not believe imperialism should be used to take over the world and destroy everybody but try to keep the world at peace as much as possible. What I mean by that is if we destroy a terrorist group but lose 200 of our men it is better for us and the world. We now save lives for men that will be serving later and there is one less threat to the rest of the world. Another reason why we should be imperialistic is if we have any countries under our rule we can let them make their own decisions and still make sure they are not getting into trouble or receiving trouble. In conclusion I beleive America should be an imperialistc country with some restrictions.
I disagree with part of Emmy's statemant about how we are doing no good in Irak and about how we are losing to much men and women. We have done alot of help like what connor said we took out there leader and made a stable government. Yes we have lost men in the process but we are saving the lives of many more to come and we are keeping the fighting thousands of miles from us!
America should not be an imperial nation because it weakens the countries that it is imperializing.It should not be an imperial nation because so many other countries have tried and didn't get the happy sucess they wanted.Imperializing can destroy other nations and ours, and overcome the bigger ideas of a bigger world, a better world, and a world where there is peace and justice for everyone. Imperialism can damage the strengh that holds differnt nations together.It's also very dangerous for the people that live in the United States. I'm sure other countries don't like to be told what to do and to get bossed aruond. I am sure that bossing other nations around will not help Americans make friends. Also to be threatend by a bigger and more powerfull country is just not very nice or kind.This is similar to bullying and that's bad. The nations around us need to develop and grow in the directions that their people want. They cannot do that if we tell them what to do and guide them at all times. Like families, friends, and individuals, when they need the support they can come and ask for it. If we are good human beings, we will help. When the motives behind imperialism is for such things as oil and other important resources, we can bargain or deal it out without threatning their country, their people, and their children. Imperialism has always been very dangerous, and continues to be.

We could help the less powerful countries and give them protection. We could get more land which would get us more resources. But sometimes other countries wouldn't want us interfering with their country. But other than that, this is why I think the U.S. should be an imperial nation.
I believe that the united states of America should be an imperial nation.The reason i believe this is because with our power we could get anything we needed, yes this could get bad fast, but don't you think that the united states has enough control to know when enough is enough? Being an imperial nation in the past has helped us by the united states gaining control over Hawaii, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and trade in japan.Sure maybe this wasn't the fairest way to gain control over colonies but it has helped the united states of America tremendously. The united states as an imperial nation has gave protection to many colonies, and has gained power and respect from all countries!

i agree with you both in Iraq we are saving lives all the time with a new and stable government. True we have lost many men and women but those men and women have been saving other peoples lives.
I think that we should be an imperialistic nation because it creates more opportunities for us to gain more strength in other countries. I think smaller nations will try to allign themselves with us for some of that power and our increased resources. I do not think that becoming an imperialist nation requires being a good role model. If we worried less about what other countries thought and more about getting work done we would be a lot farther ahead. I do not think you can have a perfect balance of a super power and nice guy role model.

I think that’s a great idea in a perfect world, but what happends when those smaller countries that are supposed to be happy and great decide they are jealous of what you have and want a piece of it? Who is going to protect you and keep you safe? Who is going to keep that country off of our doorstep? Who is going to stop them from making nuclear weapons and using them on us?
I think that the u.s. should be an imperialistic nation. I agree with connor, because there should be some restrictions. We should only help countries if the ask for help, not just help them because we think they need it. An example would be the war in Iraq. We practically invaded the country and overthrew the gov. because we thought they needed help. We could be an imperial nation, but not get too far in the other countries own business. It would be like snooping around and seeing what everyone is doing. Being an imperialistic nation, our country could influence other countries desicions and we could give them advice on how to run their country. I don't like the idea of our nation being a policeman becasue then it doesn't really give the littler countries their chance to speak up for themselves. Only if the country asked for our help, is when we could be the policeman. This is why I think our country should be an imperialistic nation.

I think the U.S. should be an imperial nation. I think it should be an imperial nation because of the things we would gain. Though we would losse some things like land, we would gain more land than we ever started with by joining with everyone. I strongly agree with Conner and Gabbi. We really could gain a lot of things by making the U.S. an imperial nation such as more resources and land. I partcially agree with Emmy though. She is right that other countries can make their own decisions, but what happens when they make a decisions they would regret. Another reason that I partically agree with Emmy is that those men that died saved many other people. Another reason why I think that the U.S. should be an imperial nation is because it would show us really responsible just like what Jaycen said. Some advantages for the U.S would be that we could get feul and trade with Japan. I could also go against the U.S not going as an imperial nation but i really think they should be one. Those are the reasons why I think the U.S. should be an imperial nation.

They really got to the point at when they discussed that we would help the U.S. Just like what Kelsey said about how we could get out of our debt by taxing the people. I strongly agree with both of them

I think the US should be a Imperialistic nation. One of the reasons I think the US should be a imperialistic nation is because it would open up more trade oppertunitiesfor are country. Being an imperialism could also help control other countries that have been getting out of hand. I think the United States should not be an Imperial nation because if our country ever gets in alot of trouble finacialy, shortage of resoures that are very important, or Goverment issues, ECT. Who are we going to go to? All the countries would hate us so much that when were at are weakest they will all take advantage of us , all the countries we ever "USED" would take all the power and say that we have in the world away from us. Then we would turn to a country and we would ask for help and they would say "umm... and what have you done to us in the past?"
How ever I think if we wouldnt have gotten in the way of other countries we might not be here right now with so much power. Our country knew when other countries were at the top. Our country didnt like that they wanted to be at the top. They wanted to be very persuasive so they could have other countries join with them and wipe out the weak countries and gain up on stronger countries with to much power.

I think the us should be an imperial nation becuase we not only help other countries when there in a war we are the only country that stays after the war to help clean up and rebuild the destruction that was the effect of the war. There are alot of good things about being an inperial nation but with power there are consquences. For example, other countries hate us becuase we are fighting their battles resulting in them feeling small and defensless. Others might say that we are abuseing our imperialistic power and I partly agree on that. For example, smaller countries and islands that we help(or taken over) we drain all of their resources to trade with others than we get all the profits from that trade.
RE:I also agree with conner on how we are (in a good way) threatening other countries. Like he said smaller countries that are getting "bullied" by other countries turn to us to help them. So practically (in middle school examle) we ,the U.S.A., are the bigger brother for the smaller/weaker countries.

Also because then we can change things that are better for all of man kind, like Iraq. It makes other countries think twice about military choices, and it also makes us look better like we're smart, we know what we're doing and how to do it, again just like taking out Iraq. We took out the dictatorship and made them a staible goverment.We're also taking out the terrorist's over there and keeping them over there.Yes men and wemon have died over there but the number of deths are nothing compared to other wars in the past that America has had. I think that the U.S.A shouldn't be and imperial nation.Yes, when you are an a imperialistic country you can "control" other smaller countries and get new resources our country could use.But controlling them would cause more conflict because they weren't having a say on any government or any decisions. Eventually all this conflict would cause war. Just think if we were the country getting controlled by..... England, then we would probably go fight for our country's independence and declare war. If we were imperialistic, the smaller countries would probably do that to us. We have had troops in Iraq forever now and nothing new has really happened except for our men dying for another countries democratic problems. We should be spending all that money on our countries problems such as sicknesses, poverty, and homelessness. Our country is pretty sweet compared to other countries around the would and we dont need more war. We already have great things so why go to war to get new ones? That is why I think the U.S shouldn't be an imperial nation. :)

I think the United States should be an imperial nation. One reason is that all countries should be able to help one another out because it usually feels good to help somebody and also maybe they can help you in return. For example I'm sitting in History class and I am having trouble with part of the section but the person next to me understands it. I could say hey can you help me with this and he may say sure but i see you understood this part. If i help you with this section will you help me with this other section. I'd say sure why not and there we go we both helped each other out and are happy about it. Another, if other countries notice we're doing that then our imperialism will become bigger and stronger and more and more countries will become allies with us. Which means easier trade, less disagreements, safer country, etc. Those are the reasons i think we SHOULD BE an imperial nation.

After reading Brit's I believe that building and imperial nation would help us gain more land and goods.
Also I along with bjorn disagree with Emmy because just because soldiers are getting killed fighting for our safety doesn't mean were doing bad. They are there risking their lives to keep all of us out of danger.
