Brother Future D1P6

I hope you all enjoyed watching "Brother Future" in class. We were cut short on time for discussing the movie after it was over so here is your chance for your voice to be heard around the world. Post what you thoughts about the movie. If you are having trouble use the question below for help getting started.

  • What did you think of the movie and why?
  • Did you like it? why?
  • What was the best part?
  • Why did we watch it in class?
  • Why do you think learning to read was punishable by death on the Plantation?
  • Ask your own question, or respond to some one else.
Make sure we stay on topic for this. I would like all of my students to leave at least one comment on this first blog entry for class.

DO NOT POST YOUR FULL NAME!!!

I liked this movie because helped me realize how bad slavery is.I think the best part was at the end when he let karolyn go and he distracted master cooper so they could run to freedom. He did something for someone else which he had never done.i think slaves were punished for leaarning to read because they didnt want them to be smart so they could origanize revolts to end slavery

There were many realistic things and events that happened in the movie. One thing was how the slave owner harshly punished his slaves. It was difficult for me to watch the movie since no one could help them and if any slave did he or she would be severly punished.I can't believe that they would do such cruelty.

I like watching movies in class because its a fun way to learn about history and things we need to know . Its hard to imagine that slavery happened, beofre i just thought that it happened its over and i dont care but now i see how bad it really was and its just somthing we needed to know about.

I liked this movie because it gave me a view of what it was like for slaves.I think we watched this movie for two reasons: one because we are learning about slavery and two because the lesson we learned at the end.I did like this movie.

I liked this movie because it put vivid pictures in your mind about how slaves were treated by most white people. I also thought it was truely amazing that some free blacks owned and treated slaves horribly just like whites. Finally I wasn't that suprised that some slaves sucked up to their owner so they might have a chance to be free or the owners wouldn't be harsh on them as much

I liked the movie because a lot of the things in the movie really happened in slavery. I think watching movies is a great way to learn about slavery.

I liked the movie because it helped me understand what really happend back when people were slaves. I cant believe they actully hurt people for doing stuff like stealing a book, learning to read, and learning to write. I dont know why they think slaves just atamaticly didnt have the same rights as other people. I'm glad they finally realized that slaves have the same rights as any other person and that slavery is wrong.

Learning to read and wright was punishable by death because then the slaves could send letters to other slaves to plan rebellions and revolts.

I really enjoyed watching this movie in class. I liked this movie because it showed how innocent black people had to work hard. Also if they didn't obey their 'master' the punishment was very cruel and harsh and unusual. I think the reason we watched this movie is because it really helped us connect to slavery and how it was harsh also that staying in school will be better then not even being able to go to school. I think writing was punishable because you could write to your family and tell them where you are and they could make an escape plan to get away. I really enjoyed this movie and hope there is more like them in social studies.

I think the best part was at the beginning when he was selling electronics such as Nintendo, cordless phones, cd players, etc. and got caught.

I liked the movie brother future even though I wasnt there when everyone finished the movie. Learning to read and write was punishable by death because slaves would probably plan revolts and escapes from slavery. Watching movies in class always helps me understand the concepts of the chapter better.

I think the slaves were punished for learning how to read because by knowing how to read you can learn a lot more and could easily start an uprise

This movie helped us learn more about slavery because it really showed how the life of a slave was and how cruel and mean the slave-owners were.

i think we watched this movie to tell us how people in the south treated african American's with slavery and no rights. It also showed how our current time in the world now has totally changed from the 1800's. It caught my attention how all the black people always had hope that someday they would earn there freedom
from a hero just like they said at the end of it. :)

I think we watched this movie because it showed how bad the masters treated the slaves if they knew how to do little things like read. I also think we watched this movie because it showed us to be thankful for what we have and to stay in school.
