Brother Future D2P1

I hope you all enjoyed watching "Brother Future" in class. We were cut short on time for discussing the movie after it was over so here is your chance for your voice to be heard around the world. Post what you thoughts about the movie. If you are having trouble use the question below for help getting started.

  • What did you think of the movie and why?
  • Did you like it? why?
  • What was the best part?
  • Why did we watch it in class?
  • Why do you think learning to read was punishable by death on the Plantation?
  • Ask your own question, or respond to some one else.
Make sure we stay on topic for this. I would like all of my students to leave at least one comment on this first blog entry for class.

I think that we watched Brother Future in class because it has to do with slavery and a little about the civil war and the movement for black's rights.

What do you guys think was the most realistic thing we saw in the video?

I think that we watched the movie because it had alot to do with slavery and it had alot of things that will help us on the test my favorite part was when he helped them get to fredom

I think the movie was actually pretty educational, without being deathly boring at the same time. We're learning about what life as a slave was and how harsh it was, yet we're still being entertained. But my question is, were some of the characters, such as Josiah, real at some point in time?

i think the most realistic thing in the movie was the parts where they were whipped. They used the same kind of whip that was shown in the history books andthe actors were really good at acting out pain...it was gruesome and sad.

Everyone remember to post comments that you actuly put some thought into what you say. Bring some insight into the discussion. That means reading the other post before you. Spend a bit of thinking about it first. Also make sure you add your name to the Name/URL spot.

i really liked the movie because it told me alot a stuff about how they lived. i always thought knew that had a hard life but know i know why and how they lived. i thought that it was really interesting cause of how much stuff they put in for the movie. like how some black dudes were were going to do a rebellion and many other things.

the most realistic thing i thought happened in the movie was how they sold the slaves and how they whipped them.

The best part was after he got home he had had a amazing experience because he helped Josiah and Caroline get to freedom

I think the best part of the movie was when Tj helped the girl with the water and then the other guy came and they both wanted to help her and they spilled the water and then she was all mad because that her water spilt and then they part when Tj got whipped was sad.

I think that the most realistic thing in the video is when their working in the fields.I dont think that any slave other than TJ would mess with the plantation owner.

I think the movie had to with the civil war and how slavery was back then.

I think the best part was when he was teaching Josiah to read and write.

I'd have to say that my favorite part of Brother Future was when Joshia & Caroline ran away. They showed that even though the risked a lot that they got free. Not all make it but the few that do are probably really thankful.

I thought the movie was really good!!! It showed what really happened back then to slaves and how the slaves acted. It made you feel like you were actually with them on the plantation!!

The movie Brother Future was educational but humorous at the same time. Brother Future showed alot about how slaves lived back then and their hunger for freedom.
They all risked their lives for freedom, some made it, others didn't.

RE: brooke

I liked that part too

My favorite part of the movie was when TJ helped Caroline and Josiah escape because he was willing to risk his life to save them.

I liked the movie, I thought it was cool. It taught us how unfair slavery was. We are lucky to live in a place without slavery and fair rights.
They made it illegal for slaves to learn to read and write because they became too smart.

I thought we watched brother future to really get a good idea of how hard slaves had it on the plantation.

I liked the movie because it has a lot of truth in it and because in the end it has a happy ending for the two slaves in it.

i liked the movie because it was both educational and interesting. I thought it showed the way if slaves lives in those days.

I thought that the most realistic part of the movie was one of a few things; the first being, when TJ helps Josiah and Caroline get to freedom; the second being, when the free black guy gives his sermon.

The movie said that learning to read and write was punishible by death because the slaves would get too smart and (this is an addition) that they might start reading the bible and start finding out about Moses.

i think the most change taht happend in the movie was when he came back from the future and he saw his life in a different way and decited to take action.

I thought brother future was a very good movie because it tells how a slaves life was and how some might have escaped through a story

I think learning to read and write was punishable by death because then slaves could write a note pretending it was signed by their master to go into town or escape.

I liked the part were t.j was helping the to other slaves to get freedom and he got shot for it. so pretty much he took a bullet for the two other slaves to get freed from slavery.

I think the best part was when he helped josiah and the other girl become free. Then that is when he got to go home because he didn't ask for anything in return.

I think the most realistic thing was when Josiah was whipped for not only sltealing the book but trying to learn to read and write.

i thought that the best part of the movie was when Tj made the rap for the guy to tell Caroline.

I think Brother Future gave a realistic picture on how slavery was terrible and immoral. It is a good movie that I could watch. The question I have is whether it was a dream or real life when TJ went back in time, cause usually you don't help a slave revolt after bing knocked out by a car.

on the what caused the civl war sheet i agreed partly with the one from 101 that the cause of the civil war was the shame of the northerners and they wanted to get rid of it and that a war could solve their problems. The part i dont agree with is the war part. Well thats my imput!!!

Anonymous said...

On the sheet for What Caused the Civil War, I agree on section 152 that the north and the south have so many differences which causes them to hate each other and lead to the war.

Anonymous said...

I agree with (63) because i tihnk the south was drivin to rebellion due to the northerner's constant opinions about what they think about slavery.

I think the movie was good, and it wasnt totally boring at the same time. It told us about how the people lived and how bad the slaves were treated.
